📰 Born in Trinidad, Hamilton attended Trinity Hall, Cambridge, graduating in 1885. He joined the colonial service, serving as Secretary for Migration in the Gold Coast and Deputy Governor of the Bahamas before being promoted to Chief Commissioner of the Gold Coast and then to Governor. He was knighted in the 1917 Birthday Honours and raised to the Order of St Michael and St George the following year. In 1925, upon a promotion in rank and transfer, he succeeded Sir Hugh Denison as Governor of Jamaica.
